Joan F. (Marvel) Sullivan

Joan Florence (Marvel) Sullivan, 84, passed away on Dec. 24 in Newburyport. 

Joan was born on May 24, 1935 in Salem to Florence & George Marvel. She was raised and attended school in Danvers. After graduating high school she attended nursing school and in 1955 married her husband Thomas. They settled down in Newburyport in 1965 where they raised their five children. Joan worked at Bailey’s and also within the healthcare industry. She loved visits to the beach, “Wheel of Fortune,” her pets Patrick, Mitzy and Kitty, and visits from family and friends. 

Joan is predeceased by her husband, Thomas Sullivan and her brother-in-law, Joseph Sullivan. 

She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Sullivan) Maynard and husband Eric of Fremont, NH; Timothy Sullivan and his wife Shelly of Avondale, AZ; Lori Sullivan of Seabrook, NH; Jamie Sullivan of Boston, MA; Dana Sullivan of Tolleson, AZ; brother George Marvel and Sue Stanley of Peabody; brother Bob Marvel of Amesbury; sister Anne Odom of Amesbury; sister Elaine Conway of Beverly; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and dear friends Shirley Kimball, Sandra Masi and former son-in-law, Bob Jones. 

Joan’s family would like to thank the compassionate caregivers who helped during her final months.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday December 30, 2019 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Her Funeral Service will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday December 31, 2019 in the Funeral Home. THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT. Burial will be private at a later date.
