Jeremiah “Jere” Joseph Sheehan Jr., 88, of Newburyport, MA and Longboat Key, FL passed away peacefully on March 3, 2021 after a period of declining health.
He was born on July 10, 1932 to Jeremiah J. Sheehan Sr. and Beatrice (Fitzgerald) Sheehan, in Newburyport, MA. He grew up in Newburyport & Plum Island and graduated from Newburyport High School, Class of 1950.
Jere always said he grew up during the right time. He and his brother Bob, along with many friends, enjoyed boating, fishing and water skiing on Plum Island. They also spent many hours when they were young building hot rods and race cars, which they raced at the Sanford Maine drag strip. Jere built his red 1934 Ford Roadster and started the Cam Snapper’s Club in 1952. He proudly drove his car for 60 years, and the club is still going strong. Jere was also one of the original founders of New England Dragway in Epping, NH.
Jere married Joanne Blanchette in 1960 and they raised their two daughters, Lisa & Gail, in Newburyport. Jere loved his family very much. He enjoyed many summer cookouts at the family home in Newburyport with his grandchildren.
Jere worked for Toledo Scale company and retired after 35 years. He and his wife Joanne made a home in Florida for the past 25 years, and have enjoyed taking many Caribbean cruises together.
Jere is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joanne Sheehan of Longboat Key, FL; Daughters Lisa Page of Gilford, NH and Gail (Brian) Macey of Salisbury, MA; Grandson James Page of Fremont, NH; Granddaughter Kerry Page (fiancé Ian Dupont) of Northfield, NH; Grandson Dr. Mathew (Kaley) Macey of Georgetown, MA; Granddaughter Jessica Macey of Denver, CO; Brother Robert Sheehan, of Newbury, MA; and his nieces Deborah (Doug) Eaton and Kathleen (Walter) Culbert, of Newbury, MA.
