Jeffrey Stone Obituary

Generations of Newburyporters past and present mourn the untimely loss of beloved son and cherished friend Jeffrey Stephen Stone, who passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021, surrounded by those he loved dearly.

Jeffrey was born in Newburyport on September 26, 1980, to the late Michael John Stone and Susan (Reilly) Stone. Under Arlington Street's broad oak trees, Jeffrey refined loyalty, patience, and learnedness from his mother, and bravery, courage, and fine carpentry skills alongside his father.

His athletic prowess, honed at a young age at treasured childhood grounds such as Pioneer League and Graf Rink, would see him ascend to become one of the most successful and decorated athletes in the history of Newburyport High School, where he lettered in both football and hockey.

His savvy in both sports continued as a Division I-A collegiate athlete at Colgate University in Hamilton, New York, where he formed lifelong friendships before graduating in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts in Education & Environmental Geography.

Stone's successful career in the pharmaceutical/biotech industry gave him the opportunity to explore and adventure across much of the United States, but Newburyport was never far from his heart, as illustrated by his decades long tenure as an assistant hockey coach for his beloved Clippers, and his constant dedication to numerous NHS charitable programs.

On rare occasion, a community is blessed with a kind and gentle spirit, a wholesome soul in which all who know him can see illuminated a goodness and love all too often obscured by a troublesome world.

May the light and love cast forth by "Stoney" radiate through us all for the rest of our days and help us triumph over the incalculable grief of his loss in our sacred memories of his incomparable wit, infectious smile, firm handshake, and strong hug.

Jeffrey is survived by his fiancée Alycia “Aly” McMahon, his mother Susan Stone, his sister Jaimie Stone Currier, beloved nephew Cashman, cousins Brianna and Brady Sullivan, treasured pups Bergeron and Marchand, as well as countless former teammates, close friends, and coworkers nationwide.
