Jeanette K. Gorman, 95, of Groveland, MA, quietly passed away on Friday, March 13, 2026 after a brief illness.
Born January 28, 1931 in Elizabeth, NJ to Henry Kuhlken and Edith Barker Kuhlken, Jeanette was raised in Cranford, NJ. Her father’s work with Standard Oil provided opportunities for family travels, and she visited Europe and lived in Australia for a period of time during her childhood.
Jeanette was proud to be one of the first women to graduate from American University with a BS in Business Administration. It was there that she met her future husband, Thomas Gorman Jr. After graduation, they both accepted positions at the Pentagon.
When Thomas began a career at IBM, Jeanette managed a series of household relocations with two young sons in tow. She moved the family up and down the eastern seaboard seven times from Boca Raton, FL to Winchester, MA. They finally retired to Cundy’s Harbor on the coast of Maine.
She continued her love of gardening in Maine and was an active member of the American Rhododendron Society. She volunteered in the local community, most notably as an organizer for the “freezer gourmet” fundraiser at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church of Brunswick. She lived in Maine for almost thirty years, mostly independently, until 2016 when she moved to Nicols Village in Groveland, MA.
Jeanette loved Labrador retrievers and had a succession of them over the years. She also enjoyed classical music and was a season ticket holder with the Portland Symphony. She was a voracious reader and a lifelong member of the American Association of University Women. But her greatest love was for her three grandchildren, and she was always interested in what they were doing.
Jeanette is survived by her son Thomas Gorman III, his wife Patricia (Sarrazin) Gorman, and grandchildren Caleb and Elizabeth of Newburyport, MA; her daughter-in-law Kathleen (Moore) Gorman, and grandson Kuhlken of Meriden, CT. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her son Jeffrey.
The family extends their gratitude to the staff and residents of Nichols Village, where Jeanette thoroughly enjoyed living for the last ten years.
Jeanette will be interred alongside her husband at Arlington National Cemetery. Burial will be private. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mrs. Gorman’s family with her arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages family and friends to donate to an arboretum or botanical garden of their choice.
