Jean Ann (Short) Alkire

Jean Ann (Short) Alkire, 88, of Hampton Falls, NH, passed away Saturday Jan 11, 2025 at her home surrounded by family.  She was born March 27, 1936, to Walter H. and Julia A. Short in Newburyport, MA.  Jean graduated from Newburyport High School in 1954 where she was a cheerleader, a member of the basketball team and voted "Best Looking."  While she often downplayed this honor, those who knew her would say that it reflected her popularity, warmth and kindness.

She was married to Walter C. Alkire, Jr. with whom she had four children.  Before marrying, she was a reservations agent for TWA and a flight attendant for Northeast Airlines.  She loved to travel and attend as many of her grandchildren's sporting and other events as she could.  She was also an avid baseball and football fan.

Jean is survived by two sons, Stephen and his wife Stephanie of Nottingham, NH, Scott and his wife Jennifer of Deerfield, NH, her daughter Janet Thompson of Hampton Falls, NH and her daughter-in-law Lynne Alkire of Hampton Falls, NH, as well as seven grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Walter C. Alkire, Jr., son John Alkire of Hampton Falls, NH and grandson Sean Alkire of Brentwood, NH.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday January 17, 2025 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Her Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday January 18, 2025 at Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Newburyport.
