Javier Manuel Irujo, 87, of Newburyport MA, passed away in his home on June 9, 2023. Javier was born on September 19, 1935 in Madrid, Spain and has lived in Newburyport since 1970. Javier leaves behind his lovely wife Masako and his four loving children, Carmen Masumi, Daniel Lorenzo, Manuel Jose and his wife Diane, and Antonio Miguel and his wife Christine. In addition, he leaves six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren in New England. He also leaves his sister Carmen and husband Paco, his late sister Meles, and late brother Daniel in Spain with their dozens of children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Javier grew up in Spain where he loved to ride his bicycle in the mountains and play soccer. He graduated from the University of Madrid in Spain with a law degree and moved to the United States to start a family soon after. Javier had a long and successful career as a Spanish teacher at Newburyport High School where the students enjoyed hearing him say “Hola Hola!” He enjoyed watching sports, especially soccer and the Celtics, going out to eat with his family, and going to the gym.
Javier will forever be remembered for his kind, thoughtful manner, and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
