Janice Lavoie Obituary

SERVICE UPDATE

Janice M. Lavoie, 82, of Salisbury, MA, Newburyport, MA and Marathon, FL passed away unexpectedly Wednesday morning, February 18, 2026.

Born on May 14, 1943 in Newburyport, she was the daughter of the late Lena (Cote) and E. Joseph Saillant.  Janice graduated from Newburyport High School in 1961 and later attended Merrimack College.  She was pre-deceased by her sister Nancy (Saillant) Casavant.  She was also pre-deceased by the love of her life, George Rossi, also known as “Ross.”

Janice worked at the Newburyport Redevelopment Authority for many years.  She served in a major role in the redevelopment of downtown Newburyport, and particularly the boardwalk, in the 1970s and 1980s.  Janice worked diligently to purchase her dream home in Marathon, Florida.  She spent her winters in the warmth of the Florida sun.  She worked at various venues as a hostess and event planner in both a Marathon, Florida restaurant and in Seabrook, New Hampshire at the race track.

Janice was involved in many charitable activities such as volunteering at the Lighthouse Thrift Store in Salisbury.  She enjoyed tending to her yard, driving her John Deere tractor, and entertaining her family and friends.  She loved going to breakfast at the Morning Buzz in Amesbury.

In Janice’s high school yearbook, she wrote “She lives, she loves, she laughs, she dies.”  While she wrote those words in 1961, that was the life she led.  Over the years, she loved us all and we had many laughs.

Janice leaves her niece Denise and her husband John Vitale of Celebration, FL, as well as her nephew Scott and his wife Susan Casavant of Germantown, MD, along with their children Sarah, Eli and Marlena, and many friends.
