Jane Volpone Obituary

Jane Volpone, 83, passed peacefully at home January 1, 2022.  Jane, the only daughter of William and Agnes (Leary) Lynch, was born in Westfield and grew up in Athol, MA.  Jane was actively involved in Athol High School including lead soloist in the orchestra, leads in the theater productions, and Student Government. Upon graduation, the Lynch family moved to Newburyport, and she used her mathematical skills as a cashier for New England Bell Telephone Company.  After winning runner-up in the original Yankee Homecoming Miss Coast Guard Pageant, she fell in love with her Gerry.  They married in 1961 and bought their home in Newburyport, where raised their four children and they lived for 60 years.

Gerry and Jane shared a love for skiing and spending time with their family and friends. Jane stayed active raising their family, baking, creating crafts and sewing projects for their home and the school bazaars, volunteering, swinging a bat at the Pioneer League, or a using a hammer or saw whenever needed. When they started Volpone Towing Service in 1976, Jane took on the challenge of running a 24/7 towing business, too. Their home became the center of extended family gatherings for decades, and she developed a love for cooking. She developed a keen business head and recently retired after 45 years at the helm. Jane always enjoyed days at the beach and by the pool, vacations to the mountains and ocean, meals with the “Girls from the Class of 1956”, and of course, time with her grandchildren, whom she wished she had first.

Jane was an amazing woman of courage, selflessness, strength, and faith. She always said that God has a reason for everything and He will provide.   We will truly miss her ready smile, fierce love, and guidance.

Jane is pre-deceased by her husband and partner of 60 years, Gerald, and is survived by their four children; Gerald Jr. of Newburyport, Mary Kathryn of West Stockbridge, MA, Michael and his wife Kathleen of Byfield, and William and his wife Robin of Newbury; nine grandchildren – Andy, Patrick, Kellianne, Ryan, Erin, Benjamin, Meghan, Paige and Thomas, and three great-granddaughters – Mellodi, Stori and Adeline.
