Jane Alice Stewart Horton, 76, beloved wife, mother, and friend, died on July 1, 2025. Jane was a long time resident of Newburyport and loved her community. In her career as a social worker at Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, she exemplified her best traits of compassion, humor, optimism and empathy.
In her leisure time, Jane enjoyed many places throughout Maine, especially on Monhegan Island and the former family property located in Hartford, ME.
Jane loved the outdoors and nature, and had many cherished family pastimes in local beautiful places including Plum Island Beach, Salisbury Beach, Great Neck in Ipswich, MA, and Maudslay State Park where she snowshoed, hiked and cheered for her two daughters who spent many years running cross country there. Jane enjoyed traveling with family and friends to The White Mountains, California, France, and Italy.
Above all, Jane cherished time with the important people in her life and prioritized connection her whole life.
She is survived by her three brothers, her husband Charles Horton of Newburyport and daughters Emma Waecker and Hannah Stellmach of Amesbury, and her grandchildren Sophia and Alyssa Stellmach, and Jonas and Heidi Waecker.
Family and friends are invited to her Memorial Service from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday August 30, 2025 at the Maudsley Arts Center in Newburyport.
