James W. McGregor, 84, of Newburyport, MA, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026.
Born on April 27, 1941, he was the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Murphy) McGregor. James was born and raised in Newburyport and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1959. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force before working at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, followed by a long career with the federal government at Raytheon, from which he retired.
In retirement, James spent his winters with his wife at their home in Sebastian, Florida. There, he enjoyed his passion for fishing, riding his motorcycle along the coast, and, most of all, welcoming visits from his children and grandchildren.
James leaves behind his wife of 48 years, June (Brennan); his two daughters, Kim Millette and her husband, Todd, of Newburyport, and their children, Brodie, Beckett, Blakely, and Bailey; and Lisa Herman and her husband, Jonathan, of South Hampton, NH, and their sons, Cameron and Wesley. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Edward Brennan Jr., of Newburyport; his sister-in-law, Kathleen Dockham, and her husband, Robert, of Stratham, NH; along with several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his daughter, Melissa Ann; his brother, John McGregor; and his sisters, Roseanne Callahan, Cornelia Berard, Margaret Gilman, and Elizabeth Greaney.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church for the immediate family. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. McGregor’s family with his arrangements.
