James R. Hanson, 96, died after a long illness, Tuesday November 19, 2019 at Webster at Rye Nursing Home in Rye, New Hampshire. He was born in Rowley, MA on January 9, 1923 to the late Fred and Mildred (Nugent) Hanson. He attended Ipswich High School followed by his enlistment in the U.S. Army and was present during the bombing on Pearl Harbor.
Following his honorable discharge, Jim returned home and married the late Virginia (Hayes) Hanson. He was employed as an Engineer for Hytron and then Western Electric. He was also employed at Hanschel Corp. and Shaws Supermarket in Newburyport.
Jim was a devoted family man and loved all kids and animals. He enjoyed salt water fishing and woodworking , and was a charter member of the Rowley VFW.
Jim is survived by his sons, Robert “Bubba” Hanson and his wife Laurie McGhee of Kensington, NH, and Tom Hanson and his companion Vicki Doyle, of Seabrook, NH; as well as many nieces and nephews. in addition to his wife and parents Jim was predeceased by his 6 siblings.

THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT. His graveside service will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Newburyport.
