Harvey Honig, resident of Merrimac MA, succumbed to Corona Virus at the age of 86. A retired Professor at the City University of NY, he was an advocate for underprivileged and disabled students, broadening their opportunities for educational advancement. A lifelong activist, Harvey fought for the rights of the blind and disabled and the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
He sat on the Boards of many prestigious organizations dedicated to the rights of the disabled including the Guide Dog Foundation. He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Mildred. He is survived by his siblings, Myrna Wapner, Lois Honig and Ronald Honig, Nephews Michael, Dan, Matthew and Nathan and Nieces Ozsel and Jessica. He will be sorely missed by devoted friends Linda Graham, Richard Twomey, Sharon Harriman and many others.
Services and burial at The Mount Judah Cemetery in Ridgewood, NY will be private. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Honig’s family with his arrangements.
