Plum Island, Newbury, Mass. and Davie, FL: Geraldine “Geri” Madigan Dorr, 79, passed on October 9th, 2021. Born on September 11,1942 in Lawrence, Massachusetts to the late Sebastian and Jennie Fichera. Geri was the oldest of 3 siblings, her late brother John Fichera, and sister Lucy Baldwin. Always an advanced student, Geri graduated high school at sixteen in the top 5 percentile of the country. At age eighteen she graduated nursing school. At age twenty she was working in the O.R. at Boston General.
Her next venture was as a psychiatric nurse which eventually lead her onto the board of Turning Point as a foster care coordinator.
Within two years, she was appointed executive director.
After nearly 3 decades, Geri helped build Turning Point Inc, into the highly respected and indispensable business that still serves the community today providing Woman’s Shelters, Drug and Alcohol rehab Classes, Group Home Services for those with developmental disabilities.
Multi-talented, Geri help to create Newburyport Youth Soccer (NYS), she worked on the Yankee Home Coming committee for over twenty years and was chairperson the year they celebrated the Coast Guard’s two hundredth anniversary. She was an active member of Rotary and a Justice of the Peace and Minister.
After nearly 5 decade career Geri appears in the U.S. Who’s Who in Health and Human Services Registry.
Geri loved to be with her family. She was the widow of her second husband Larry Dorr. She is survived by two sons, oldest Dan Madigan, wife Karen, and grandson Kane, and youngest son Eric Madigan and fiancé Karen Westin. Several nieces and nephews. Besides her love of nursing and helping people, her most precious moments were spending summers with her grandson Kane, the light of her life.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at Twomey, LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, October 15, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial at Bellevue Cemetery in Lawrence.
