George E. Schutz

George Edwin Schutz, of Newbury, Massachusetts, born January 5, 1945, passed away on August 6, 2025, at eighty years of age.

George’s family and friends are saddened to announce his passing

He is survived by his sister Catherine Getchell, daughter Catherine Bennett, and his best friend, long term housemate, and caregiver, Teresa Murawski, and his many dear friends.

George led a very interesting life, and in turn, made life just as interesting for everyone around him. His early childhood years were spent on Long Island, New York. Later, he attended Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts, where he earned a degree in Business Administration. After college he set his degree aside, going into the business of distressed homes and their renovation, primarily in the Newburyport area in the 70’s and 80’s. He had a long and successful career in this endeavor. George was also an excellent carpenter himself, and knew how to build homes from top to bottom — capable of all aspects of building and renovation with his own hands.

George was also a student, and later, an instructor in Korean Martial Arts (Shim Gum Do), having achieved a 5th degree Dan Black Belt in Shin Boep. He was a collector of classic literary books and was an enthusiastic “student” of history. He enjoyed classical music daily. Often Bach, Beethoven or Mozart could be heard coming from his windows. He was also a financial supporter of NPR and various animal rescue groups.

George Schutz was a true and loyal friend to so many. He will be sadly missed, but we take comfort in the memories we have of him — wonderful memories we all will cherish.
