George “Jake” Jacobs of Salisbury, Massachusetts and longtime resident of Newburyport, passed away surrounded by family at the High Point House November 12, 2023. George was born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on July 16, 1937. Upon his graduation from Allentown High School chose to serve in the US Air Force for 4 years. While stationed at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, NH he met his wife of 63 years; Madelyn “Maddy” (Nason).
They settled in Newburyport, Massachusetts and raised six children. George worked at Raytheon for over 30 years and was passionate about his work on the Patriot Missile System. He was also an avid gardener and cook. His meals were the centerpiece of many family gatherings.
His family will miss the Father, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather who brought them together for vacations at Pawtuckaway and lobster cookouts with his lifelong friends, Hunzie and Theresa Morris, and their loving family. The traditions and memories they created will not be forgotten.
He is predeceased by his mother Julia Jacobs of Shamokin, Pennsylvania and his brothers, Florian Jacobs and Leon Jacobs.
He is survived by his wife, Madelyn Jacobs and their children, Gregory Jacobs of Kingston, NH, Jeffrey Jacobs of Salisbury, Philip Jacobs and his wife Karen of Salisbury, Christopher and his wife Christy of Newbury, Kristin Jacobs of Newburyport and Michael Jacobs and his wife Siobhan of Kingston, NH.
George will be greatly missed by his 11 grandchildren who knew him as Grampy; Kaitlyn Robertson, Nicole Canny, Lauren Parker, Joel Jacobs, Samantha Jacobs, Tyler Jacobs, Megan Jacobs, Lydia Jacobs, Ayden Jacobs, Karoline Jacobs and Emily Jacobs. He is also survived by his seven great-grandchildren; Clare Canny, Lilah Canny, Ethan Parker, JT Robertson, Liam Parker, Theo Zolkos and Lindy Robertson.
He also leaves behind his brother Carl Jacobs of York, Pennsylvania and Betty Frederick of Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania.
Friends and Family are invited to call from 4:00 - 7:00 PM Friday November 17, 2023 at Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA 01950. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Saturday November 18, 2023 at Star of Sea Parish 18 Beach Road, Salisbury,MA 01952. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newburyport.
