Gary Alan Welch

It is with deep sorrow that we mark the passing of Gary Welch. He passed away, at his home on July 14, 2025. Gary was born to Elizabeth (McClure) Welch and Ernest Welch on November 10, 1951 in Newburyport, MA. Gary grew up in Salisbury, MA and graduated from Newburyport High School in 1969. After graduation, Gary served in the United States Army until 1977. Upon his discharge, he earned his associates degree from Essex Agricultural & Technical School. 

Gary married his high school sweetheart Ann Fletcher on June 9, 1973. They were married for 51 years, until her passing in 2024. Gary spent the majority of his life working for the cities of Newburyport and Amesbury as a mechanic at their waste water treatment facilities.  Gary was a devoted family man who loved his sons.  He took pride in watching them participate in sports as children and into college. He loved family vacations and treasured every moment spent with his beloved grandchildren. Gary is survived by his two sons Peter (Dianna) and Thomas, and his 4 grandchildren Abigail, Brayden, Julia and Jackson.

Friends and family may call at Twomey, LeBlanc and Conte Funeral Home 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA from 2:00 to 4:00 pm on Sunday, July 27, 2025. Gary’s funeral Mass will be held at Immaculate Conception Church 42 Green Street, Newburyport, MA at 10:30 on July 28, 2025. After the funeral, those interested may join the procession to the burial service in the Veteran’s Section of Old Hill Cemetery on the corner of Pond and Auburn Streets, Newburyport, MA.
