Gail E. (Manning) Martin

Gail E. (Manning) Martin, 86, of Newburyport, passed away July 19th, 2025 at Anna Jaques Hospital of complications from pneumonia, surrounded by her family. She was born on April 8, 1939 to the late Francis and Alice (Herlihy) Manning in Newburyport, Massachusetts.

Gail attended the Immaculate Conception High School and The Beverly Hospital School of Nursing where she got her RN certificate and was awarded Nurse of the Year in her graduating class. She then furthered her education at the University of New England, where she received her Bachelor’s degree. She worked at Anna Jaques Hospital for 25 years, where she was a dedicated and beloved nurse, including educating many new nurses. Gail married Robert M. Martin of Amesbury, Massachusetts, and they shared almost 45 years of marriage before his passing in August of 2007. Together, they had three children. Gail grew up in a large family in Newburyport, surrounded by many aunts, uncles and cousins. Family was where she wanted to be.

Gail is survived by twin sons, Robert Martin and wife Kristin of Exeter, New Hampshire and Steven Martin and wife Karen of Newburyport and daughter, Jill Halley and husband Jeffrey of Newburyport. Grandchildren, Jennifer Martin and partner Isaiah, Jeffrey Martin and wife Jordan, Jack Halley, Ryan Comley and wife Breanna, and Madison Smith and husband Justin. She is also survived by her siblings, Linda Grabowski and Richard Manning, and brother in law, Jack Martin and wife, Christine, among many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased in death by her husband and siblings - Judy Hurton, Francis “Brother” Manning, Connie Robbins, and Patrick Manning.

Gail’s family would like to express their love and appreciation to the staff at Port Healthcare Center in Newburyport, Mass.

Family and friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church 42 Green St. Newburyport, MA on Tuesday July 29, 2025, followed by her Funeral Mass. Burial will take place after Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newburyport. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA is assisting Mrs. Martin’s family with her arrangements.
