We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Francis Joseph Notargiacomo III on Saturday, December 24, 2022. Francis was born October 11, 1952 and is a longtime resident of Amesbury, MA. He is a graduate of Newburyport High School class of 1971 and worked at General Electric until he retired in 2012. He was a long-time member and past Exalted Ruler of the Newburyport Elks, Lodge 909 and member of the St. John Mason Lodge.
Francis wore many hats, he loved hunting, archery, fishing (although he never caught anything to bring home), gardening (especially his sunflowers), and being a proud fan of the Amesbury Fighting Indians Football team. Francis enjoyed traveling with his family (recently cruising the European coast with his wife) and loved being on the water relaxing and enjoying the quietness of his surroundings.
Each Fall Francis looked forward to the football season in Amesbury, whether it was celebrating with Friday night football parties, decorating the house with a teepee, the large letter “A” on the roof, the vintage sign on the garage, or decorating the house for the yearly Thanksgiving Day game by displaying the senior football players jerseys and decorating the house with balloons, Francis enjoyed the excitement.
When Francis retired, he became part of wife’s at home daycare (sometimes it was like having another child to look after), where he was officially named “Francie” by the kids and he loved teasing them, spooking them and sending them home with random vegetables weekly. Like clockwork, the kids would always ask if “Francie” would be putting up the “Indians” sign and he always responded “YES” with a smile.
For those that knew Francis, knew that he was never one to sit still. After retirement Francis took up many odd and end jobs to keep himself busy, from chopping wood to working as a lobsterman, but his favorite job was working at the Go-Carts at Lena’s (especially watching the tourists attempt to drive around the track - sometimes unsuccessfully).
One of the proudest days was when his two grandsons were born (having had daughters, Francis was happy to have boys in the family…finally). He loved playing and teasing them, making faces, hyping them up on sugar and sending them home, teaching them jokes and most importantly, how to drive their parents crazy.
Francis is survived by his wife Debra (York) of 40 years, his daughters Aimee Notargiacomo and Elyssa Tiplady, her husband Jonathan, and his grandsons Dean and Jameson. He is also survived by his siblings, sister Brenda Notargiacomo, brother Raymond and wife Sue Notargiacomo, sister AnnMarie Notargiacomo, and brother Stephen Notargiacomo, along with many nieces, and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, Francis J. Notargiacomo Jr. and Florence (Cleveland) Notargiacomo.
Family and friends may call on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA.
