Eugene “Bucky” Gammons, 75, died Tuesday January 19, 2021 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital in New Hampshire. He was born in Newburyport on December 5, 1945 to the late Barbara Jean (Gammons) Sostak. Bucky was a graduate of Newburyport High and continued to reside here his entire life, a city he loved. After High School he joined the Navy and proudly served our country in Vietnam for 18 months. He was employed by Towle Silversmith in Newburyport before his employment with the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier, retiring in 2006.
Bucky was a former member of the Newburyport Zoning Board of Appeals, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a longtime member of the Newburyport Elks Lodge 909. He most enjoyed and valued spending time with family and friends. He dedicated his life to his family to which his passion grew stronger with his grandchildren.
Bucky is survived by his wife Diana (Luce) Gammons of Newburyport; daughter, Amanda Denise and her husband Rob of Raymond, NH; grandchildren, R. J. and Joshua Denise; brothers, Stanley Sostak and his wife Cindy of Hampton, and Larry Sostak and his partner Rose Cibene of Salisbury; as well as nieces and nephews, Ryan, Ashlie, Colby, and Dayna Sostak.
Family and friends are invited to his Graveside Service at 10:00 AM on Friday January 29, 2021 at St. Mary Cemetery in Newburyport. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mr. Gammons’ family with his funeral arrangements.
