Newburyport, MA. Edward D. “Sam” Twomey of Newburyport passed away peacefully on September 23, 2022 with his family members by his side.
He was born in Newburyport, MA the beloved son of the late Michael F. Twomey and Margaret Donlon Twomey.
Ed attended Newburyport Schools and graduated from Newburyport High School the Class of 1950. Upon graduation from High School he worked for his father at Michael F. Twomey Disposal Service. During the Korean war he enlisted in the US Air Force and served 4 years.
He was employed as a Civil Engineer for the State of Mass for 40 years. He worked on many of the highways and bridges in the area. As resident engineer he oversaw the construction of the Bossy Gillis Bridge in Newburyport. He was an active coach in the Newburyport Pioneer League and provided expertise in helping develop the newest Pioneer League Field. Edward was a quiet man who enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and solving cryptogram puzzles.
Ed is survived by his wife of 70 years Georgia Bichok Twomey, and children Jeffrey and his wife Barbara Twomey of Marietta, GA his daughter Deborah and her husband Andrew Naudzunas of Atkinson, NH; grandchildren, Tiffany Twomey of Danville, NH, Jenna Twomey of Owensboro, KY, Sasha Twomey of Waukesha, WI, and Andrew Naudzunas II of Manchester, NH; great grandchild Kaylow of Danville, NH; and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his two sister in laws, Janet Short of Newburyport and Ruth Twomey of Amesbury. He was predeceased by his son Timothy and his wife Beverly Twomey of Danville, NH; his brothers, Michael F. Twomey, Jr. of Newburyport, Paul Twomey of Salisbury, and sister Lorraine Twomey Hopkins of Newburyport.
He will be sadly missed by family and friends.
Family and friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday September 28, 2022 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. His Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Thursday September 29, 2022 followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
