Obituary

Edward Coleman, 90, passed peacefully on Sunday, May 22, 2022. Ed was a loving father, devoted husband and always a man of great integrity and kindness. Ed was married to his best friend and sweetheart, Jean. He is survived by Jean of Newburyport, MA and Fort Myers, FL, his 4 children Kathleen of Tampa, FL, Ed of Lake Tahoe, CA, Tom of Sunnyvale, CA, and Sharon Coleman (Judith Hull) of Newburyport MA, his in-laws, Elaine Suarez, Betty Ann Collura, Carolyn and Dennis LoDestro and many nephews and nieces. Ed and Jean had just celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary on May 21st, 2022.

Ed was born in Buffalo, NY in 1931. Ed earned his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Buffalo in New York State. He did this while working full-time at GTE Sylvania and raising a family.  Ed and Jean ultimately brought the family to North Reading MA, where he went on to become a successful intellectual property attorney at GTE. He was also a president of the Boston Patent Law Association. Despite his busy career at GTE for over 40 years, he always made time for family, whether it be track meets, coaching the first girl’s ice hockey team in the area, Boy Scout leadership, or going camping. In his retirement Ed and Jean enjoyed living and playing in Fort Myers, FL and Newburyport, MA. He was an avid nature lover and birder. He was a lover of life and passed his last day celebrating his 67th Wedding Anniversary.  He will truly be missed, and his kind heart and generous nature will live on forever.
