Dr. William Henry Waters passed away on October 24, 2023 after a brief illness, with his three children at his side.
He was born March 2, 1944 in Wilmington, Delaware.
Bill was pre-deceased by his father, Charles Millard Waters, his mother Ruth Deery Waters, and his sister Byrl Ann Waters.
He is survived by his three children and their spouses, Deborah B. Ford (Tim) of Milton, MA, Charles M. Waters (Paige) of Newburyport, MA, and Geoffrey L. Waters (Mica) of Portland, OR, and his seven grandchildren, Geoffrey Ford, Gabrielle Waters, Alexandra Waters, Madison Ford, Luke Waters, Cameron Ford, and Sofia Waters.
Bill was a product of Catholic school education. He attended Salesianum School (’61), LaSalle University (’65), and Georgetown University Dental School (‘69). After graduating from dental school, Bill enlisted and became a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy at the Shipyard in Charlestown, MA from 1969-72.
In 1973, Bill opened a dental practice in North Beverly on Dodge Street, where he practiced for 47 years until he retired in 2020. Over the course of his practice, Bill treated thousands of Beverly-area families, many of them multigenerational and many becoming his close friends.
Bill raised his family in Hamilton, MA and was a parishioner of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Beverly community as well. Among other roles, he served as President of the Rotary Club of Beverly and Board Member of the Beverly Y.M.C.A.
Bill played golf, cards, tennis, basketball and bowled (to varying degrees of proficiency), and enjoyed immensely his friends in these activities.
His passion and focus, however, was being a grandfather, likely his biggest legacy. Much to his enjoyment, Bill’s grandchildren lovingly called him “Papa.” Papa spent time with each of his grandchildren, never to miss a sporting event, birthday celebration or family vacation and always being the biggest supporter of each and every grandchild.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport, MA at 10:30am on November 25, 2023 with a small reception to follow at the Courtyard at 53 Warren Avenue, Newburyport. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Dr. Waters’ family with his arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to the Beverly Rotary Club Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 201, Beverly MA 01915.
