Donald Nolan, Sr. Obituary

Donald M. Nolan, Sr., passed away at his home in Seabrook, NH with his family by his side, on Saturday evening June 8, 2024. He was born in Manchester, NH on July 17, 1935 to the late James H. and Elle Belle (Malcolm) Nolan. He was raised and educated in Newburyport.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served our country proudly during the Korean War in the 29th Infantry until his honorable discharge in November 1956. He was a member of the Honor Guard and Drill team from 1953 to 1956 as well as the National Guard from 1958 to 1960.  Donald was employed as a Letter Carrier for the USPS and was also a Custodian at the Kelley School in Newburyport, retiring from both positions after 31 years. He was involved with Newburyport Politics serving as a Ward 3 and Ward 1 Councillor from 1972 to 1986.

He was one of the founding members of the Christmas Parade in Newburyport and involved in Yankee Homecoming for over 20 years and was the Chairman in 1973, as well as coached for the Pioneer League for many years.

Donald was a lifetime member of several organizations, including the Seabrook American Legion, D.A.V., the North End Boat Club, the Neptune Club, as well as the Jaycee’s International where he was awarded the Senatorship Award in 1973. He was also a member of the Wounded Warrior Project, the Newburyport High School Alumni Association, the N.R.A., and the Seabrook Historical Society.

Donald in survived by his wife, Patricia (Williamson) Nolan of Seabrook; children, Donald M. Jr., William J. and Robert J. Nolan and his wife Sue, Diane M. Fournier and her husband Dave, and Patricia A. Papa; step children, Laura Ingenluyff, and Gregory Busick; and grandchildren, DJ, Nicole, Savannah, Ryan, and Laura. He was predeceased by his former wife Janice A. (Croteau) Nolan in 1998, and was also predeceased by his siblings, James, Jr., Malcolm J., Richard A., Margarete B. Nolan, Eleanor Phillips, Jean Brooks, Patricia Beasley and Mildred Groleau.

Family and friends may call on Thursday June 13, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. His Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 11:00 AM on Friday June 14, 2024 followed by burial with military honors at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Newburyport.
