Donald “Donnie” Ames Jr. passed away peacefully in his home in Newburyport, MA with the love of his life by his side on March 28, 2024.

Donnie was born November 19, 1945 in Memphis, TN., to Donald Ames Sr. and Evelyn Ames.  Donnie was one of four siblings including, Debbie Ames, Beverly Christo, and Karen Blake. 

In 1965 Donnie graduated from The Claude H Patten Trade School of Beverly High School.  Shortly after, Donnie enlisted in the US Air Force and served 2 tours during the Vietnam War.

Donnie was employed by Osram Sylvania as a technician for 30 years until his retirement. It was there that he met his beloved wife Wendy and the couple were married on July 10, 1982. Together, they raised three children. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather.

Donnie was an avid sports enthusiast and was a fixture at all of his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events.  He enjoyed spending time working on his home and yard.  He also enjoyed taking rides along the coast in his Jeep. Above all, he was a man who put his family first.  He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and many friends. Donnie was welcoming of all, and truly was one of a kind.

Donnie is survived by his loving wife Wendy Ames, daughter Dawn Marie Budgell and fiancé Rob Sabatella, sons John Ogiba and fiancé Danielle Cameron and Donald Ames III and wife Alison Ames, along with seven grandchildren including Taylor and Jax Budgell, Morgan Bilodeau, Greyson Ames, Colby, Hailey and Logan Cameron. 

Family and friends may call on April 5, 2024 from 10am to 12pm at Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA. His Funeral Mass will follow at The Immaculate Conception Church in Newburyport at 12:30pm. Burial will be private at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Tucker Gosnell Center for Gastrointestinal Cancers at Massachusetts General Hospital.
