David Sheppard Obituary

Dave passed away at home last Saturday evening with his family at his side, in what was a long and courageous battle against colon cancer.  He was born in Ipswich, Massachusetts to Vincent and Louise (Tougas) Sheppard with his family moving to Rowley when he was 10 years old.  Dave attended Newburyport High School (Class of 1960) which was a regional school at that time.  He was the beloved husband of Nancy (Pike) for 56 wonderful years and loved living and raising his family in Newburyport.

Throughout his entire life Dave was an active volunteer in his church and within the community.  He was a past member of the Newburyport Planning Board, Jaycees and Knights of Columbus and served a term as Grand Knight.  A member of the Newburyport Lions Club he for many years managed the Yankee Homecoming Road Race route volunteers and was recently awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Humanitarian Services for his 30 years of work and dedication. Whether in a group or simply a guest in your home, Dave was known as someone who was always actively looking to pitch in, help out and do whatever was needed.

A lifelong sales professional in and around the automotive industry, Dave began his career as a Snap-On Tools distributor and thoroughly enjoyed this position for 12 years.  He eventually went on to start his own company, A.S.K., Inc. in Ipswich, who along with two partners installed and serviced hydraulic equipment, primarily in the automotive field.  A salesman to the end, in his later years he worked at Fraser Pontiac and Yeo Chevrolet in Amesbury before finally retiring. In retirement, Dave and Nancy spent their winters in Holly Hill, Florida where he enjoyed many hobbies including golf, genealogy research, playing cards, and was always getting together with family and friends.  Dave also loved to travel and explore, taking pictures of scenic landscapes everywhere he went – his favorite trips were to  the United Kingdom, Hawaii, America’s National Parks and especially Alaska.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two children; Kristine D’Angelo and her husband David of Newburyport, his son, David Sheppard Jr. and his wife, Katie of Canton, Massachusetts, five grandchildren, Claire and Matthew D’Angelo, Dillon, Danielle and Drew Sheppard; his sister, Linda Ouellette and her husband Bob of Newburyport; his brother, James Sheppard and his wife, June of Pensacola, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by three sisters; Patricia York of Newburyport, Sally Kohl of Cleves, Ohio and Susan Corsen of Harrison, Ohio.
