David Casavant Obituary

David B. Casavant, 82, of Newburyport, MA peacefully passed away Saturday morning, November 14, 2020 at his home in Newburyport.

Born February 7, 1938 in Lynn, MA, he was the son of the late Isabelle and Joseph Casavant.  David graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1956.  He served in the United States Air Force.  Later, he was employed as a draftsman at General Electric, D. G. O’brien and Alfa-Laval/Contherm.

He enjoyed being outside, tending to his lawn and gardens, often working beside his wife Nancy.  David was active in Barbershop Quartet singing, where his groups won many awards over decades of competitions.  He enjoyed running and jogging; he competed in and completed the Boston Marathon several times.  He was a fan of classic cars and loved to ride around town in his 1956 Chevy Bel Air.  He was a skilled carpenter and built his first home in West Newbury alongside his father-in-law Joseph Saillant.  David loved Pepsi Cola and all local pro sports teams, especially the New England Patriots and the Boston Bruins.  After retiring, he enjoyed spending the winters with his wife Nancy in their second home in Vero Beach, FL.  There, he enjoyed the warm weather, golfing, playing bocce and socializing with others from the North Shore who also considered Vero Beach their winter homes.

David was preceded in death by Nancy Casavant, his loving wife of 46 years.  He is survived by his daughter Denise and her husband John Vitale of Salem, NH, his son Scott and his wife Susan Casavant of Germantown, MD, his three grandchildren Sarah, Eli (Deanna) and Marlena, as well as several nieces and nephews.   He is also survived by his siblings Ann Graham and her husband, William, of Newburyport and Monica Hovan of South Berwick, ME, as well as several additional in-laws:  Larry Clothey of Exeter, NH, Shirley Casavant of Dallas, Texas and Janice Lavoie of Salisbury, MA.  He was preceded in death by his siblings Francis Casavant, Isabelle Clothey and Patricia Casavant.
