Cornelius “Neil” Foley, Jr. beloved husband, father, and grandfather died Wednesday morning April 29, 2020 at his home in Newburyport. He was born in Amesbury on February 27, 1941 to the late Cornelius Foley, Sr. born in Ireland and Josie Fowler born in NH. Neil was raised in Newburyport and attended Newburyport High School. He was employed by Gould-Shawmut as a machinist for over 30 years until his retirement in 1995. During his employment Neil furthered his education taking night courses at Northern Essex Community College. He was proud to be named on the Deans List and graduated with his associates degree in business.
Neil was the founder and president of the Newburyport Stamp Club a chapter of the American Philatelic Society. He enjoyed playing cards, especially poker, and his many trips to Las Vegas. He loved going to Marie’s restaurant in Salisbury daily for breakfast they were like his second family.
Neil is survived by loving wife of 58 years, Charlotte (Eaton) Foley of Newburyport; daughter, Catherine Ann Foley; son in law, Michael Linsky; the apple of his eye, grandson Matthew Foley Linsky; sisters, Irene Collett and Mary Frances Saunders and her husband Hobie; many nieces and nephews; and his good friend George Henderson.
Due to the current state of health affairs there will be a private graveside service for Neil’s family. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting his family with his funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Neil’s name to Care Dimensions 75 Sylvan Street, B-102 Danvers, MA 01923.
