Claire (Schonemann) Paulsen, a resident of Newburyport for over 50 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 9, 2023.
Claire is survived by her husband of 25 years, Paul Paulsen, and her three children, Caroline Mionis and her husband Robert of Hampton, NH; Hans Schonemann and his wife Laura of Newburyport; and Jean-Marc Schonemann and his wife Michele of St. James Island, SC. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Erika, Natalie, Scott, Julia, Isabel, Emma, Adelaide, Ellie, and Amelia, and one temperamental cat, Gracie.
Born in Sanford, ME in 1939, she was the daughter of Raymond Letourneau and Alphonsine (Roy) Letourneau and sister to Marceline Letourneau.
A graduate of Bradford College, Claire worked as an administrative assistant at a local architectural firm. She was also an active writer and wrote several articles for the Newburyport Daily News.
In her later years, Claire was an enthusiastic animal rights advocate and volunteered for various animal shelters and organizations. Claire was also an active member in her French club, as well as in two Newburyport churches – first, the St Louis de Gonzague church, and later, Immaculate Conception.
Together, Paul and Claire were engaged members of the Newburyport community, frequently volunteering their time and opening their home to anyone in need.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Friday October 13, 2023 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Her Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:30 AM on Saturday October 14, 2023 at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial Will be private. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
