Christopher Utt Obituary

Christopher E. Utt, age 26, of Berwick, ME, died March 19 at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport from complications of a traumatic brain injury. He was born in Concord, MA on December 1, 1997 to Warren and Cathy (Goucher) Utt and raised in Acton, MA before moving to Newburyport. In addition to his loving parents, Chris is survived by his brother James (Jamie) and partner Michelle Calvert of Somerville, MA., and beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends across the country.

Chris graduated from Newburyport High School and attended the University of Maine, Orono. Growing up, Chris was fiercely competitive playing football, lacrosse, basketball, and ultimate frisbee with complete joy. Recently, he played semi-pro football with the Seacoast Warhawks. Influenced by his Grandfather Jim Utt, whom he adored and who passed away in 2019, he took up golf and enjoyed great success on the links, continuously working to improve his skills. Chris also loved the affection and funny antics of his animal rescues, Boots, Angel, Bama and Tiger.

Chris endured struggles with anxiety, ADHD and depression throughout his life. He worked continuously to be healthy and manage this disease, finding that traditional prescribed medications sometimes caused more harm than good. He was personally helped by the use of medical marijuana and wanted others to understand and benefit from its healing potential. Following this passion, he established his business, Hummingbird Family Farm, in 2020 and worked hard to grow completely organic high quality craft medical cannabis. Chris became an award-winning Cultivator with extensive knowledge of the healing benefits of different strains and cannabinoids for treating his patients with chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, insomnia, cancer, and more. His smile and infectious laugh could light up a room and he had a generous spirit determined to help others with his products as best he could.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life luncheon to honor Chris and share great memories on Saturday, April 6 from 1-4pm at the Newburyport Sr./Community Center, 331 High Street, Newburyport. The time of remembrance will begin at 2pm. Burial will be private at a later date. The Twomey, Leblanc & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport has been entrusted with Christopher’s care.
