Christopher James Fleming battled a number of health issues before passing peacefully on January 14, 2020 at the High Pointe Hospice in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He was the beloved son of Richard Thomas and Susanne (Keogh) Fleming. A longtime resident of Newburyport and Plum Island, Chris was 48 years of age.
Chris was born in Falls Church, Virginia on November 29, 1971. A natural athlete, he especially enjoyed playing soccer and baseball. After graduating from West Ethical High School in Georgetown, he lived for a time in West Virginia. He then made his way to New York City for several years before ending up on the North Shore. A sensitive soul, “too good for this world,” Chris wrote hundreds of poems, but never sought publication. His single published poem, published during his time in New York City at the urging of his brother John, was entitled “Chasing Butterflies.” He cared for his mother during her last years on Plum Island. He was a dear friend to many.
He is survived by his three brothers Ed, John and Richard; his aunt and uncle, Chris and Tom Teusch, his nephew Patrick and niece Grace, as well as numerous friends in the Plum Island community.
A service will be held for Chris on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 4:00 PM. at Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home 193 High Street Newburyport, MA 01950. THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT. Burial will be private at a later date.
