Charlotte Singer Obituary

Charlotte Welton Singer, 81 passed away on July 13 due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. As a Marine Corps brat, she lived all over the country, but the longest stretches were in Glen Rock, New Jersey and Harwich, Massachusetts with her husband of 58 years, Richard “Dick” Singer.

Charlotte was born in Schenectady, New York on May 15, 1944 to Avis (Terry) and Henry “Hank” Porter Welton III. She and her younger brother Pete, lived with them in Connecticut, Illinois, and California. She graduated from Ripon College in Ripon, Wisconsin in 1966 and married Dick the following summer. They lived in Seattle, Washington for several years where Dick attended graduate school, Charlotte worked for Pacific NW Bell telephone company, and they had son, Jeremy in April 1970.

In 1972 they moved to the east coast so Dick could begin a career on Wall Street and daughter, Catherine “Cat” was born shortly after in February 1973. Charlotte was a devoted stay-at-home mom, very involved with her kids, as Byrd School President of the PTA and a member of the Glen Rock Board of Education for 6 years.

After many years as “the cool mom” who would hold court at her kitchen table, providing support and advice to Jeremy, Cat and so many of their friends, Charlotte returned to work. She worked for the Hackensack Medical Center as a unit clerk and then gift shop manager, Valley Hospital, and as a medical assistant for several gastroenterologists in both New Jersey and on Cape Cod.

Charlotte took great pride in caring for her family, and did it lovingly. She is survived by her husband, Dick, daughter Cat, and son-in-law Peter Korn of Newburyport, Massachusetts and son, Jeremy and daughter-in-law Marcie Wilson of Silver Springs, Maryland, as well as her brother Pete Welton and his daughters, Peri and Pauli and their families.

She did not want formal funeral services, so the family will honor and celebrate her privately. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mrs. Singer’s family with her arrangements.

If you feel compelled, please consider a donation in her honor to Cat’s annual Alzheimer’s Association fundraising walk at act.alz.org/goto/catkorn
