Obituary

Charles L Brett Jr., 80, of Newburyport MA, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2023, at Anna Jacques Hospital in Newburyport surrounded by the love and spirit of his family. Charlie was born August 30, 1942 in Danvers MA, to the late Charles and Muriel (Sears) Brett.

Charlie grew up in Danvers and attended Northeastern University, University of Lowell and South Dakota State. Charlie was a building construction professional for many years, superintendent of public works in Nahant and Saugus, MA. He started his own construction business in the early 80s and retired as a building inspector in the towns of Hamilton and Wenham. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending his time with his dog Gracie Anne D’Angelo Brett, his family and friends. In 2021 he married Charlotte and together remodeled and made their home in Newburyport.

Charlie was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Simone (Vincent) Brett. He and Simone had 5 children and raised their family in Danvers. He is also predeceased by his siblings, Muriel (Sis) Cotter, M. Theresa Merrill, John Brett and Thomas Brett. In 2021 Charlie married Charlotte (Cox) D’Angelo.

Charlie is survived by his children, Lisa and Ken Kumph of Georgetown, Eric and Donna Brett of Wilton, NH, Piper and Lou Chaves of Durham, NH, Matthew Brett and Wendy Reed of Elk Grove, CA, Jason and Jodi Brett of Danvers, and his niece and nephew Stephanie Williams and Peter Brett. He is also survived by his grandchildren and three great grandchildren of which he was extremely proud - Jacqueline and Jared LaBelle, Matthew and Kimberly Kumph, Benjamin Kumph, Meghan and Ryan Abely, Emily Brett, Sarah Brett, Zachary Haded and Alyana Polanco, Noah Haded, and Alexa Haded, Nikolas Brett, Hailey Brett, Samantha Brett and Timothy Higginson, and Taylor Brett. Great grandchildren Charlie Gray Kumph, Fletcher Charles LaBelle, and Nikolas Pheonix Brett, as well as many niece and nephews. He also enjoyed spending time with Charlotte’s family; Denise D’Angelo and Hugo Hernandez, Julia D’Angelo and Chris Vyverberg, Benjamin and Melinda D’Angelo and their children.

Visiting hours are Thursday, May 25th , 3-7 pm, Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High Street, Newburyport, MA. The funeral service will be held on Friday May 26 at 11 am, Central Congregational Church, 14 Titcomb St., Newburyport, MA
