Carolyn O'Keefe Obituary

Carolyn O’Keefe, age 82 of Newbury, passed away on January 3, 2021 at Anna Jaques Hospital after a short illness. Carolyn was born in Pittsfield, Mass on December 12, 1938 to the late Henry and Doris Hyde. She graduated from Pittsfield High School and attended the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She worked part-time at Anna Jaques Hospital before working 27 years as the secretary at Newbury Elementary School until her retirement in 2000.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joseph O’Keefe of Newbury. She also leaves her children, Stephen O’Keefe of Amesbury with his wife Lisa, and their children Chris and Ryan; and John O’Keefe of Fairfax, VA with his wife Cammy, and his children Danny, Sean, and Alison McClanahan with her husband Rick, and their daughter Riley.

Carolyn also leaves behind her siblings, Janice Lear with her husband Thomas, Beverly Robbins with her husband Walter, Robert Hyde with his wife Rose, Henry Hyde, and Dr. Charles Hyde; sisters-in-law Betty Fecteau and her husband Fred, Barbara Gravelle, and her brother-in-law Richard Coleman; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Coleman.

Carolyn loved gardening, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and walking with her friends, Ann, Pat, and Paula. She enjoyed vacationing with her friends in Siesta Key, Florida as well as cruising and traveling the country. She most enjoyed spending time with her family and friends along with her many trips with Joe to Virginia, the cabin in West Virginia, up-country at Twin Lake Village in New London NH, and Foxwoods.  Carolyn always made holiday gatherings with family and friends a fun time with memories that will be treasured forever.

Due to continued restrictions for COVID-19, memorial services for family and friends will be held at a later date. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mrs. O’Keefe’s family with her arrangements.
