Carol B. (Burnham) Travis

Carol Burnham Travis, age 91, passed away suddenly on Thursday, October 1, 2020, while visiting her family in Massachusetts. She was born to the late Clarence G. Burnham and Emilie S. Burnham. She was predeceased by her late husband of 40 years, Clarence M. (Bub) Travis III.

Carol graduated from Barnard College in 1951 and received a Masters of Education from SUNY New Paltz in 1970. She was a teacher in the Poughkeepsie Public School District for 25 years and a founding member of a program to bring education to underprivileged children.

Carol’s priority was always her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She shared her love of nature, specifically birding, and also enjoyed cooking and baking - she baked 18 different kinds of Christmas cookies every year. She also loved to travel extensively in South America, the Mediterranean, and Europe. Carol spent her summers in the Catskills, picking blueberries and feeding hummingbirds, while wintering in Arizona.

Better late than never, Carol embraced her sixties child by volunteering at the Bethel Woods Arts Center (site of the 1969 Woodstock Festival).

She is survived by her three children, Carol, wife of Tony Friscia, Clarence M. “Lance” Travis IV and his wife Joan, and Pamela, wife of Stanley Klecha. Six grandchildren: Zach and his wife, Michelle, Christopher and his wife, Christine, Emily and her husband, Johnny, Elizabeth, Suzannah, and Andrea, and three great-grandchildren, Erla, James, and Tessa.
