Carol McGrath Obituary

Carol Ann (McDonough) McGrath, age 80, died peacefully in the comfort of family following a period of declining health.   Carol, the daughter of the late William McDonough and Virginia (Kearns) McDonough of Somerville.    A long-term resident of Billerica, Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Peter J. McGrath and survived by her adored children Karen (McGrath) Geary and her husband Ted of Salisbury MA; and Daniel Patrick McGrath of Nashua, NH.  Devoted grandmother of Kathleen Maeve Geary and Aidan Peter Geary.  She is predeceased by brother William McDonough Jr and in-laws Susan and James Duggan of Quincy and John McGrath of Watertown.  A devoted aunt, she is also survived by Cheryl Brady of Belmont, Maureen S. Redmond and her husband Brian of Pembroke, James F. Duggan, Jr. and his partner Kathleen Kelly of Newington, CT, Michael G. Duggan and his wife Karen of Guilford, CT, Francis P. Duggan and his wife Karin of Glastonbury, CT, Kathleen M. Kayne and her husband David of Trumbull, CT, Patrick J. Duggan and his wife Susan of Holbrook, MA, Teresa M. LaMonica and her husband John of Duxbury, MA and Virginia H. McGregor and her husband Adam of Marshfield, MA as well as her dear friends John Cascio, Nancy Novak, and Michael Breda.

Following her beloved career as a flight attendant, Carol became an accomplished artist and was one of the original artists to establish studios at Western Avenue, her second home and family.  A talented Trompe l‘oeil painter and muralist, she worked with mixed media as well, and was an amazing knitter (often giving away hats to babies passing through open studios, instead of selling them).  Her quick Irish wit and sense of humor endeared her to cherished friends, family and strangers with whom she chatted.  She was a true matriarch who loved her family, friends and dogs deeply.
