Brian Marshall, son of Joseph and Edith (Clough) Marshall, passed away in his Marlborough, MA home on Sunday, July 10, 2022. He was born on January 15, 1947 and raised in Newburyport. He was 1 of 12 children. He graduated from Newburyport High School in 1965, at which point he joined the Navy. During his time in the Navy, Brian went from ship to ship and port to port across the world. After his time in the Navy, he worked in telecommunications.
Throughout his life, Brian was a survivor who had his share of close encounters and battles. He nearly drowned as a child, being saved by a German Shepard. At age 10 he fell off a bridge into a river while chasing animals and birds. He also managed to survive multiple brain and open-heart surgeries. One could say he had multiple lives with a strong will to live.
Brian had many passions in life including bowling and playing cards with friends, canoeing, bird watching, gardening, and watching sports. Most of all he enjoyed his time with family. Even though he was saved by a dog as a child he never cared much for dogs (so he says) until he moved to his last home in Marlborough. There he developed a close bond with his wife’s families’ dogs, Duke, Lilly, Hershey, Ginger, and Trinity, especially the smallest of them, Lilly. His closest bond, however, was with his wife, Najla, and granddaughter, Amina.
Brian is survived by his wife Najla, his children Beth Goldfarb and her husband, Gregory Goldfarb, Fadua Kotufo and her husband Charlie Kotufo, and Adriano Drummond and his wife Angelita, and his grandchildren Marcelo, Lucca, Vittor, and Amina.
He is also survived by his siblings, Gloria Williams of Georgia, Gordon Marshall and wife Judy of Newburyport, Sandra Gagnon of Ohio, Andrea Eaton and husband Bruce of South Hampton, sisters-in-law Pauline, Shirley, and Kathy Marshall and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters Lorraine Bear and Raelene Pirainin, and brothers Joseph, Lawrence, Gayden, Wayne, and Alan Marshall, and brothers-in-law Bruce Bear, George Mitchell, and Leo Gagnon.
Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Thursday July 14, 2022 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950.
