Beverly Murphy Obituary

Beverly Ann (Sheehan) Murphy, 86, a lifelong resident of Newburyport, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Newburyport. Born on March 26, 1939, in Swampscott, Massachusetts, she was the beloved daughter of the late William and Gloria Sheehan.

A proud graduate of Newburyport High School’s Class of 1957, Beverly built a life rooted in her community and enriched by her many passions and pursuits. Before retiring, she worked at the Radisson Ferncroft in Danvers and the Alpine Shop in Newburyport. She also dedicated her time as a volunteer at the R.A. Nock Middle School library. In her retirement years, Beverly continued to give back through her volunteer work at the Sanibel Historic Village and Sanibel Native Plant Nursery. Her love for history and storytelling shone brightly during her time as a Boston by Foot tour guide.

Beverly found immense joy in boating, gardening, reading and spending time at the beach. She cherished moments with her family on Plum Island and Sanibel Island or amidst the serene beauty of Jackson, New Hampshire's mountains. Her love for nature and family created countless treasured memories that will live on in the hearts of those who knew her.

Beverly is survived by her devoted husband of 68 years, Jack Murphy; their children Brett Murphy and his wife Louise, Shawn Murphy and his wife Jackie, and Erin Fournier and her partner Rich Papa. She was a proud grandmother to Ryan Murphy; Hannah Manning and her husband John; Christian Fournier and his wife Amanda; Eric Fournier and his wife Megan; as well as step-grandchildren Sean Cuddy and Thomas Cuddy. Beverly was also blessed with great-grandchildren Gracie, Bennett, Johnny, Sonny, Nora, and Will; she is also survived by her brother Kenneth Sheehan.

In addition to her parents, Beverly was predeceased by other loved ones who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms.

Beverly’s legacy is one of love for family, community service, and an appreciation for life’s simple joys. May her memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know her.

The family would like to thank the Staff at Avita in Newburyport for the wonderful care they provided for Beverly. A special thank you to her friend Rose at Avita for giving Beverly her final blessing.
