Audrius “Andy” Kontautas passed away on July 19, 2025 at the Jack Byrne Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
Born and raised in South Boston, MA, Audrius was a graduate of South Boston High School and received his bachelor’s degree in architecture and historic preservation from Roger Williams University. While there, Audrius led a complex project requiring a piece-by-piece relocation of the University’s Theatre Arts Building to a new site on the property. After graduation, he pursued a career in historic preservation by establishing his own business, Architecture Restoration and Design. Audrius was proud of his many accomplishments that included several store fronts in the Berkshires and St. Peter's Lithuanian Church in South Boston. The crown jewel for Audrius was the meticulous restoration of his Newburyport home, the Mechanic 2, shared with his wife, Deborah. Notably, the couple was selected to appear on a segment of the HGTV series, Building Character, and featured in articles in Merrimack Valley Magazine and Newburyport Magazine. Most recently, Audrius owned several rental properties in South Boston.
A larger-than-life personality, Audrius was known around Newburyport as “Dancin' Andy”, “Dice Man” and “Andy Elvis Jackson”. He enjoyed sailing, roller skating and entertaining friends. With a great passion for his heritage, Audrius spoke fluent Lithuanian.
Audrius was born to the late Feliksas and Laima (Valickas) Kontautas. He leaves his wife Deborah (Kocher), sister Lydia (Romas) Rudis and nephew, Aidas Rudis. He was predeceased by his brother, Aidas Kontautas.
Friends and family are respectfully invited to a time of visitation on Saturday July 26, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950, followed by his Graveside Service and Burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Newburyport, MA.
