Anne LaPierre Obituary

Anne Louise (Lenane) LaPierre died peacefully on Monday, December 2, surrounded by her family.

Predeceased by her husband Ronald, Anne is survived by her four daughters: Joanne and her husband Luis Cordón, Lynn Sullivan, Terri LaPierre and her partner Basil Magee, and Amy and her husband Roderick Anwyl; grandchildren: Sean and his wife Jennifer Sullivan, Anna Cordón, Ryan Sullivan and his fiancée Sadie Cathcart, Emilia Cordón, Amy and her husband Matthew Dysart; and three great grandchildren, Jack, Mary, and Ivan Sullivan. She is also survived by her brother-in-law William LaPierre along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Duggan and Helen Knox.

Anne was born to Anastasia (Wiseman) and Edward Lenane; the youngest of three daughters, she was a proud native and lifelong resident of Newburyport. She attended Immaculate Conception School and was a graduate of Newburyport High School, class of ’51.

Anne and Ron married and brought up their family in Newburyport.  Raising her girls was her greatest accomplishment.  She was a fun Mom, whether she was making up stories to entertain her daughters especially on a roadtrip, dressing up in elaborate costumes to dispense Halloween candy, or bearing everyone at cards. Nothing made her happier than when her circle expanded with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Anne started working at W. E. Atkinson Company while still in high school. She also worked at the First & Ocean National Bank, Western Electric, and New England Telephone, from which she retired in 1988 after decades of service. Retirement allowed her to focus on lifelong loves: spending time with her family and friends, reading, and volunteering at Sarah’s Place.

Sunday dinners with her Mom was a lifelong practice. She adored having those she loved around the table, to talk, have tea, play cards, dice or board games, or to serve you something to eat.  Anne loved to feed people. To her, there was no better way to show you cared for someone than to cook for them; food was love, and she loved to share it.

Anne’s ability to talk on the phone was legendary.  She loved to listen and was always the happy recipient of a phone call and would stay on as long as you wanted or needed.  A phone call was always second to her hugs; she gave and received the best hugs in the world.
