Anne Mary Hartnett

It is with great sadness that we share that Anne Mary Hartnett left this world peacefully on June 19, 2026 after an extended illness.

If there is one thing friends and family will remember about Anne Mary it is her rich and loud laugh that filled the room at family parties and get-togethers. There were many imitations of Anne’s laugh (in good fun), but no one could quite replicate its uniqueness. Her humor, kindness, thoughtfulness and friendship will be deeply missed by all who knew her and held her dear.

Anne was born on September 13, 1949 to John and Alice (Noone) Hartnett. She grew up in Newbury, MA and attended the Immaculate Conception school.  Anne will be sadly missed by the “IC Girls” and their families. She graduated from Newburyport High School and attended Northern Essex Community College.  Anne met many of her lifelong friends at her first job at The Village Pancake House.  For 20 years, Anne worked at John Hancock Insurance Company as an actuary and a devoted friendship  continues to today from that work experience. She commuted into Boston from Newbury with many friends during that time and was known for her savvy, aggressive and boisterous Boston driving style. Anne left John Hancock to work alongside her beloved brother, John, in the family business after the death of their father. 

Anne enjoyed skiing and spending time in the White Mountains and she treasured the memories and friendships made there. Anne Mary was a Patriot’s fan and thoroughly enjoyed corresponding with many family friends during and after the games, colorfully commenting on the team’s performance.

Anne is survived by her brother, John Hartnett of Newbury,  and her cousin, Jack Goodrich & his wife, Claire, of Florida.  She is also survived by many beloved family, friends, and Godchildren who consider Anne Mary a member of their own family.

Her Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery, both in Newburyport. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Ms. Hartnett’s family with her arrangements.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Anne’s life and the incredible care she received in her last days, donations can be made in her honor to Merrimack Health Charitable Trust, 1 General Street, Lawrence, MA 01841 in support of Lawrence General Hospital.
