Ann Frances Lyons, a long-time Newburyport resident, passed away at Newton Wellesley Center for Alzheimer’s Care on October 4, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was 67 and had lived with Alzheimer’s Disease for several years.
She was born in Newburyport to Barbara Walsh Lyons and James F. Lyons, who predeceased her. She always took great pride in her St. Patrick’s Day birthday and Irish heritage. Ann was a Social Worker for many years at Boston Children’s Services and the Home for Little Wanderers. She helped countless vulnerable families to stay together safely and was particularly devoted to at-risk children. She has left the world a far better place.
She is survived by her sister, Alycia Lyons Goody and brother-in-law, John Davies of Sherborn and her nephew Kevin Davies and his partner, Stephanie Pierce, of Walpole. She is also survived by “extended cousins” Nancy and Mike Kennison of Newburyport, cousin Pamela Fish (LaVonne Rulapaugh) of Rochester, IN; and cousins Rick Walsh of North Kingstown, R.I.; Jay Walsh (Susan) of North Reading; and Jim Walsh (Kathy) of Norfolk. She was predeceased by cousins Michael Sullivan of Amesbury and Kevin Sullivan of Newburyport. She was blessed to have the love and support of lifelong friend Geraldine Carter and her husband, Fred, and dear friends Peggy Curley of Dorchester and Jim McCloskey of Boston.
Ann’s family is extremely grateful for the many people in Newburyport who looked after her and kept her safe as she struggled to remain independent. Particular thanks go to the folks at Market Basket, where she was proud to work and felt appreciated and useful.
Family and friends are invited to Ann’s Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Friday November 4, 2022 at Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will be private at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950.
Contributions in Ann’s memory may be made to Merrimack Valley Feline Rescue Society, 63 Elm St., Salisbury, MA 01952 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452.
