A. Leo Baribeau, Sr. Obituary

A. Leo Baribeau, Sr. 91, a resident of Newburyport, was called home Wednesday July 17, 2019 at Anna Jaques Hospital. He was born in Lynn on July 31, 1927 to the late Joseph A. and Hectorine (Droulet) Baribeau. Raised in Lynn Leo was a graduate of St. Jean Baptist School before being drafted into the US Army where he was stationed in Okinawa and served our country proudly during WWII until his honorable discharge in 1947.

Leo was employed by General Electric in Lynn for 43 years before retiring, beginning his career shoveling snow, and working his way up through the ranks, becoming a Steam Turbine Engineer and Manager for the entire eastern seaboard.  

In 1948 he married the love of his life the late Marie Belliveau. The couple remained in Lynn for several years before settling in Rowley to raise their family in 1981 they went on to build their dream home in Newburyport . Leo was a devout Catholic and cherished his wife and family. Leo was an exceptional woodworker, making many pieces of furniture for family and friends. In his later years he developed a newfound passion for cooking, especially his homemade pizza and sauce and chicken pot pie. 

Leo is survived by his children; Elaine Gudaitis and her husband Michael of Amesbury, and A. Leo Baribeau, Jr. and his wife Kimberly Hamilton of Ipswich, grandchildren; Christopher and Daniel Kelley and Alexander and Jacob Baribeau, great grandchildren; Mia, Morgan, Savannah, and Scarlett Kelley, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents Leo was predeceased by his brother Paul Baribeau.

Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Saturday July 20, 2019 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High ST. Newburyport, MA 01950. His Funeral Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Saturday, followed by burial at St, Mary Cemetery in Newburyport. THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT.

in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Leo’s name to Great Lakes Hospice online at www.greatlakescaringhospicefoundation.org or to the Newburyport Council on Aging 331 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950.
