Wayne A. Cole

February 5, 1941 ~ June 21, 2018 (age 77)

Wayne A. Cole, 77, a lifelong resident of Newburyport, died Thursday June 21, 2018 surrounded by his loving family at Anna Jaques Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wayne was born in Newburyport on February 5, 1941 to the late Rowell and Dorothy (Kendrick) Cole. He graduated from Newburyport High School, and continued his education graduating from the Saunders Radio Electronics School in Boston. Following his graduation, Wayne was employed briefly by United Shoe until its closing. Local residents may fondly remember Wayne, as he was employed by the City of Newburyport as a Custodian for 33 years until his retirement. He also maintained a snow removal and plowing company for many years. Hard working Wayne, didn’t stay retired long, as he has been employed as a part time driver at Opportunity Works of Newburyport from 2014 up until his last days.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife Francine (Stallings) Cole of Newburyport. His children: Cheryl, Wayne Jr; Kyanna and her husband Jon of Haverhill; Reginald, Joshua, and Justin. His cherished grandchildren: Jonathan, Elizabeth, Meghan, Danielle, Kristopher, Mariah, Catlin, Latisha, Maya, Ivanna, Jasmyn, Kitana, Chase and Austin. Wayne is also survived by his brother, Stephen Cole, niece, Jennifer Cole, and several great grandchildren. Wayne was predeceased by his former wife Helen (Bailey) Cole, brothers, Ronald and Preston Cole and nephew, Jeffrey Cole.

On the very top of Wayne’s bucket list, was to live to see his youngest son Justin, graduate from Bridgewater University. Unfortunately, he transitioned before his son’s graduation date. As Justin enters his senior year, a fund has been established to help alleviate the financial strain that now exists in the face of Wayne’s departure. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be mailed in to the Justin Cole Scholarship fund at the Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank, 21 Storey Ave, Newburyport, MA 01950 or made in person at any branch locations. Additionally, donations can be made on line via a go fund me campaign at

Family and friends may call on Wednesday June 27, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport; his funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday June 28, 2018 at the Hope Community Church 11 Hale Street, Newburyport.
