Sophia (Kubik) Butler, 99, of Newburyport, died Friday, May 4, 2018, in her home on her birthday, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 4, 1919 in Newburyport, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Swiatlowska) Kubik.
Sophia worked in Washington D.C. during World War II. After the war she returned home to Newburyport and worked for several prominent businesses before working for IRS as a Tax Examiner up to her retirement.
Post retirement she enjoyed working at Governer's Academy in the President's office. Sophia's greatest pleasure was working in her garden. Her greatest joy was being with her family.
She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Faye and Bob Hale of Holliston and Lorraine and Tim Loring of Newburyport; four grandchildren, Meredith, Robyn, Jennifer and Lexi; along with six great grandchildren, Kayley, Allie, Matthew, Mike, Kate and Abigail. She was the sister of the late Alice Zabierek and John, Walter and Fred Kubik.
Family and friends may call on Tuesday May 8, 2018 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Immaculate Conception Church on Green St. Newburyport, followed by her Funeral Mass in the Church at 10:30. Burial at St. Mary Cemetery in Newburyport will follow Mass. The Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950 is assisting Mrs. Butler’s family with her arrangements.
