Roger I. Kelley, 94, died Sunday morning June 23, 2019 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital. He was born on February 25, 1925 to the late John D. and Beatrice (Amirault) Kelley in Ipswich where he was raised and educated. Following his education Roger enlisted in the US Army and served our country proudly until his honorable discharge in 1946. He then married the late Dorothy McDermott and the couple settled in Newbury to raise their family. They also ran a successful clam business together for many years. Roger was then employed by several local construction companies before retiring from Gallant Pools. In his spare time Roger enjoyed bowling, gardening and going to the movies. He especially loved his “Trips to the General Store”.
Roger is survived by his children, John P. Kelley and his wife Melody of Plum Island and Annie Crooks and her husband John of Seabrook; siblings, Nora Harrington of Florida and Lorraine Cook of Ipswich; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, Roger was predeceased by his sons, Roger I. Kelley Jr. and Jack “Ripper” Kelley; and siblings, John D. Kelley Jr., Joseph Amirault, Elizabeth Corkum and Wilfred Kelley.
Family and friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 AM on Thursday June 27, 2019 at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home, 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. THERE IS NO LONGER ANY PARKING AVAILABLE BEHIND THE FUNERAL HOME PER ORDER OF THE CITY OF NEWBURYPORT. His Funeral Service will follow the calling hours in the funeral home with burial at Belleville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Roger’s name to the charity of one’s choice.
