Patricia Marie (O'Brien) Cody

Patricia Cody, age 86, was born on March 26, 1932 to Wilbur and Sarah (Mullen) O’Brien. Patricia was the fifth of six children. She passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Portsmouth Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.

Patricia was a graduate of Immaculate Conception School and was a member of the first graduating class of Immaculate Conception High School in 1950. She attended Merrimack College and received an Associates Degree in Business. After beginning her career at Towle Silversmiths, she worked for the New England Telephone and Telegraph Company for over a decade.

Patricia married Gerard “Jerry” Cody on September 26, 1959. They had two children, Kathryn “Kathy Cody” Fallon and Christopher Cody. Pat was a stay at home mother during her children’s early years. When she returned to work, she was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Employment Security. She later worked for many years for the City of Newburyport, first in the Water Department and later in the Building Department until 2007.

Pat led a busy life, always making time for family and friends. She had a smile and kind word for whomever she met and met many on her long, daily walks with Jerry. They loved going to the beach with their children. Pat loved home renovations projects and often had a paint brush in her hand. She loved to cook and entertain. She was an authentic woman who was positive and dedicated to helping others. Pat was very spiritual and devoted to her faith.

Patricia is survived by her husband Gerard, her daughter Kathryn and her husband Thomas Fallon, son Christopher and his wife Melissa and grandsons Colin and Trevor Cody as well as many nieces and nephews and her dear friends Eleanora Paciulan and Erford and Paula Fowler.

In addition to her parents, Patricia was predeceased by her brothers William, Charles, Robert, John and her sister Elizabeth Halloran.

Calling hours will be held Sunday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Twomey, LeBlanc & Conte Funeral Home at 193 High Street, Newburyport. Parking available behind the Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:30 a.m., Monday at the Immaculate Conception Church, 42 Green Street, Newburyport, followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery.
