Joseph E. Mannix, 81, passed away at his residence on Plum Island Wednesday July 25, 2018. He was born in Newburyport on October 16, 1936 to the late Timothy Joseph and Maria (Comeau) Mannix. He was raised and educated in Newburyport, graduating from Immaculate Conception High School. He furthered his education attending Providence College before graduating from Northeastern University with his degree in Accounting. Joseph then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1956 and served our country proudly as an intelligence analyst in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1959. Joseph was employed for several years at Towle Silversmiths as a CPA, before starting his own private practice serving the Newburyport community until his retirement.
In his retirement years Joseph enjoyed traveling the world, visiting 105 different countries in his lifetime. He especially enjoyed visiting Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.
Joseph is survived by his siblings, Margaret Spils of Alaska, Deanna Ousler of North Andover, and Robert Mannix of Newburyport; nieces and nephews, Deanna, Conrad, Carol, Daniel, Gregory, Kristen, Nicole, Heidi, and George; eleven great nieces and nephews; and his very dear friend Jo Minalio.
Family and friends may call on Wednesday August 1, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Parking available behind the Funeral Home. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday August 2, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery, both in Newburyport.
