James Geekie, Jr. Obituary

Newburyport, MA - Sgt. James A. Geekie, Jr., USMC passed away unexpectedly at his home on November 5, 2019. Born in 1938 in Waltham to the late James A. and Barbara (Turner) Geekie. Jim was a long time resident of Newburyport.

Jim was fiercely proud of his years spent in the U.S. Marine Corps, during which he met and married his beloved wife, Sachiko (Oki) Geekie. A man of many skills, Jim's careers included construction, long haul trucking and owning and operating several businesses.

Jim was an avid outdoorsman and lived for deer, duck and fishing season. Family hunting and fishing trips to Pittsburg, N.H. and Maine were meticulously planned and thoroughly enjoyed for more than 70 years. Jim was truly at home in the woods and the marsh. The holder of many U.S. patents, he was also a voracious reader and held a deep interest in researching his proud Scotland heritage and all things related to Alaska, Vikings and the Yukon. Jim could often be seen walking to the Newburyport Public Library, along the Merrimack River and in the Parker River Refuge daily. With a quick wit and keen sense of humor, Jim will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Jim was predeceased by sister, Donna J. Rapa-Doucette; brother-in-law Albert A. Rapa; and nephew David C. Rapa. He is survived by his beloved wife, Sachiko and his six children: son James W. Geekie and wife Holly; daughter Barbara Gagnon and husband Robert; daughter Kimberly Lafrance and husband, Rick; daughter, Susan Mitchell and husband Craig; daughter Tracy Geekie; daughter, Rebecca Meskil and husband Todd; nephew, Allan Rapa and wife, Melissa; and grandchildren Erin, James, Ricky, Tessa and Benjamin.
