Charles J. Bashaw

Charles J. Bashaw, 94, a resident of Safford Arizona and formerly of Newburyport, died at his home surrounded by family members on September 24, 2018. He was born in Newburyport on May 17, 1924 to the late Charles and Ellen (Shea) Bashaw.  Charles graduated from Newburyport High School before enlisting in the U.S. Navy during World War II.  Following his honorable discharge in 1947, Charles settled back in the Newburyport area to work and raise his family.  Charles eventually settled in Safford in 1992 to enjoy the weather and beauty of the Southeastern Arizona desert.  

Charles is survived by his wife Julia E. (Gibbs) Bashaw of Safford, AZ,; children, JoEllen Nangle and her husband Phil of Houston, TX, Charles J. Bashaw and his wife Sue O’Connell of Wells, ME, John N. Bashaw and his partner Theresa Gilbert of Jackman, ME, Gregory G. Bashaw and his wife Cindy of Byfield, David E. Bashaw and his partner Kelly Wach of Wells, ME, and Scott B. Bashaw and his wife Terri of West Newbury; 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Charles was predeceased by his former wife Marie B. (Foley) Bashaw and his daughter Jaqueline Tullercash.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday October 5, 2018, at the Twomey, LeBlanc, & Conte Funeral Home 193 High St. Newburyport, MA 01950. Parking available behind the Funeral Home.  His Funeral Mass will follow the calling hours and be celebrated at 12:30 PM at Immaculate Conception Church followed by burial at St. Mary Cemetery both in Newburyport.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Charlie’s name to the roof fund of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 2257 S. 1st Ave, Solomon AZ 85551.
