Anthony Fusco Obituary

Anthony J. Fusco, 71, of West Newbury, passed away on June 19, 2017, surrounded by his family, including his loving wife of 47 years, Dawne (Schofield) Fusco. He was born June 30, 1945 in Lawrence to the late Americo Fusco and Viola (Corradino) Fusco.  Anthony moved to Methuen at a young age.  As a youth, he was very involved with the Boy Scouts having received recognition with the Ad Altare Dei emblem, a testament to his Catholic faith.  He attended St John’s Prep, Methuen High School and Bentley College.  In 2002, he retired after working 30 years with the IRS.  He also worked as an EMT and volunteer fire fighter on the West Newbury Fire Department.  Following his retirement, Anthony enjoyed making pizza with his cousins at Tripoli Bakery in Lawrence.

Anthony was an active member of the Exchange Club of Greater Newburyport, having served as President of the New England District for a term and as a key on the advisory board to the Michael B. Christensen Family Support Center for the prevention of child abuse.  He was also an active member of the Saint Alfio Society of Lawrence, helping to organize the annual Feast of the Three Saints.  He proudly traveled to Sicily in 2013 to honor the saints.  He was also a longtime member of the Essex County Sportsman’s Association.

Over the years, he coached numerous baseball, softball, and hockey teams for his children.  He particularly shined when it came to team fundraising for local sports.  He enjoyed fishing, spending time in “his woods” in West Newbury, and large Christmas Eve gatherings with family and friends.

In addition to his wife Dawne, Anthony leaves behind his three devoted children, Andrea Fusco of Merrimac, Tina Foster Pernilla of Haverhill, and Michael Fusco and his wife Carolyn of Hampton Falls, N.H.; his beautiful granddaughters Sofia Lanphere and Eleanor Fusco; his sisters Anne (Fusco) LeMaitre and her husband Bill of Brewster, and Rose (Fusco) D’Agostino and her husband Ernie of Salisbury; his loving mother-in-law Lois Schofield of West Newbury; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, a nephew, and countless dear friends.
